Your Pet Is A Part of Your Family…Shouldn’t Their Health Be Insured?

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

Although there are a large number of pet owners in the States, most do not see a reason to have pet insurance; this is peculiar when they are generally loved like any other person in the home. The average American will have health insurance; should we be forgiven for not caring enough about our pets then?

It may at first sound like just another regular expense; this attitude quickly changes when these pet owners are presented with the bills for treatment. The cost of taking an animal for treatment at the vets has become more expensive during the last ten years; of course the knock-on effect has been a rise in pet insurance premiums.

So if the ever-increasing cost of pet health cover does not convince you to act, what will? Accidents and serious illnesses occur from time to time; this can happen at any time and usually when you can least afford it!

There may come a time when you have to consider the cost of medical treatment; the last thing you want to think about is how you will pay for your animal to have urgent treatment.

I remember a few years ago when the vet told me that it would cost at least 1,000 dollars to save my dog; although he is a part of my family, I did wonder at the time (I feel ashamed now), if the cost was worth it. Medical science cannot cure everything and pets are vulnerable too; animals do not always survive after a course of treatment or operation.

The financial aspect of looking after a pet is something that must be considered carefully; no-one wants this to cause them financial problems. If your credit card is at its limit then often a bank loan is the only answer.

When the cost of treatment is uppermost in your thoughts, it may cloud your judgment; a pet insurance plan will mean this type of situation does not occur again. Although pet healthcare insurance costs are rising they are not going to break the bank; these plans can be purchased from anywhere between twenty to forty dollars a month which could save a fortune in the long term.

Various pet healthcare insurance options are available; some companies offer a discount if you have more than one pet on the plan. A loving pet owner should really be thinking about the level of healthcare in place for their pet; do not leave it until it is too late!
