Your Pet’s Health Coverage Is Just As Critical As Yours
Monday, June 30th, 2008Millions and millions of people in the US have some kind of pet but the majority of pet owners do not have pet insurance even though we all become very attached to our animals and they become like part of the family. We all know just how important it is to have insurance to protect out property and our health, with medical insurance so this omitting this seems all the more strange.
Many people consider pet insurance a frivolous matter until they have to face vet bills when their pet is sick. Vet costs have risen tremendously over the last decade and the need for pet insurance has grown to offset those high costs as I found out about a year ago when one of my dogs was hit by a passing vehicle; vet bills ran up to 1,200 dollars so I decided I should take a closer look at insurance for my dogs.
So if the every increasing cost of pet insurance does not convince you to act, what will? The realistic fact is that the more pets you own, the greater the risk that one of them will be involved in an accident or become sick and trust me when I say that this invariably happens at the worst time, financially.
When you are considering the medical treatment that your pet needs, you should have to even think about how much it is going to cost. This situation happened to me when I was informed that I was looking at around one thousand dollars to save my dog and all I could think about at the time was whether he was worth the cost, awful isn’t it? Especially when you know that even with the surgery and treatments, my dog could still die from complications but fortunately it all turned out well and my dog is happy and healthy today.
For us, the timing could not have been worse because although we wanted to look after our dog, we experiencing financial difficulties that we hoped were only temporary. I had recently been laid off from my job and quite frankly we were over-extended on bills so I ended up borrowing part of the money from a friend to satisfy the vet bill.
If you love your pets then they deserve the best medical treatment, something that is assured if you have a decent pet insurance policy and you will not have to think about how little treatment you can get away with. Insurance can usually be purchased for anywhere from 20 to 40 dollars per month so it’s very affordable, especially if you get hit with a huge vet bill.
As with most insurance policies today, you can choose from a range of services to suit your individual needs and financial position. If you have been giving pet insurance some serious consideration recently then maybe this article has made things a little clearer for you.
