Why You Shouldn’t Go A Day Without Insurance For Your Pet
Monday, June 30th, 2008Despite the untold millions of people in the United States who have pets, a huge percentage does not have any form of pet insurance when the pet is considered very much a member of the family. This statistic is even more peculiar when we consider insurance very high on our priority list with cars, homes, boats and health insurance extremely important to the average American.
Many people consider pet insurance a frivolous matter until they have to face vet bills when their pet is sick. My focus as placed on the value of pet insurance only a short while ago when I was given a four figure bill after the vet saved the life of our dog.
So if the every increasing cost of pet insurance does not convince you to act, what will? The realistic fact is that the more pets you own, the greater the risk that one of them will be involved in an accident or become sick and trust me when I say that this invariably happens at the worst time, financially.
There cannot be a worse situation to be in when you are told how much it will cost to treat your pet and you know it will place financial strain on you. I remember well, the vet telling me that it would cost at least 1,000 dollars to save my dog and although this dog is a part of my family, in the back of my mind (I’m ashamed to say), I did wonder at the time if the cost was worth it. Fortunately our dog made a full recovery this time but it could have gone the other way and we would still have the bill to pay.
The financial strain of making or keeping your pet well can be overwhelming and when my dog was injured, it could not have come at a worse time, financially! Our money worries had started about a month prior to this accident when I had been laid off after ten years with the company so we were financially extended and if it wasn’t for my brother coming to the rescue, I don’t know how we would have managed the bill.
You can guarantee, if you have money worries then you either won’t pay for the treatment or only give just what is needed and not necessarily the best; something that pet insurance guarantees won’t happen. Pet insurance will not cost the earth and insurance plans can be purchased from anywhere between twenty to forty dollars a month which could save a fortune against the cost of vet bills.
Various options exist with pet insurance plans in the same way regular insurance does but some pet insurance companies even offer a discount if you have more than one pet on the plan. If you are a pet owner then with a bit of luck this information will have convinced you of the importance of getting your pet insured.
