Is Pet Insurance Worth It?

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

A large percentage of pet owners cannot see the benefit of pet insurance; to date this peculiarity remains a bit of a mystery. The average American will have health insurance; so we should do the same for our pets.

Contrary to the belief of many, this is an important monthly expense; that is until those pet owners face expensive vet bills when they are sick. Many people forget just how much the cost of taking an animal to the vets for treatment has risen in recent times; this has lead to an increase in pet insurance premiums.

Pet health cover costs, like many other types of insurance plans, are on the increase; this should really be enough to make you think twice about delaying but this isn’t the only reason. Accidents and serious illnesses occur from time to time; this invariably happens at the worst times, financially.

There may come a time when you have to consider the cost of medical treatment; the last thing you should have to deal with is the stress over the expense of saving your animal.

I remember a few years ago when the vet told me that it would cost at least 1,000 dollars to save my dog; although he is a part of my family, I did wonder at the time (I feel ashamed now), if the cost was worth it. To make matters worse, there is always a chance you pet still won’t survive; operations on animals can go wrong sometimes.

The financial strain of keeping your pet healthy can be overwhelming; when money problems occur, temporary or otherwise, this causes further worries. You may have other pressing financial commitments to attend too so raising further capital can sometimes be a problem.

It may seem like you are making choices but it is not likely you would place yourself in a similar position. something that a pet insurance plan guarantees. Although pet healthcare insurance costs are rising they are not going to break the bank; plans are still affordable, especially when you consider the alternative.

Various pet healthcare insurance options are available; some companies offer a discount if you have more than one pet on the plan. A loving pet owner should really be thinking about the level of healthcare in place for their pet; do not leave it until it is too late!
